George Laughlin on Successful Radio: The Three C’s

April 22, 2022

George Laughlin has been working in the broadcast radio industry for more than twenty-five years.  As CEO of YEA Networks – a position he has held since 2011 – George Laughlin today is involved in the creation, production and syndication of media content, with a prime focus on radio and podcasts. Given Laughlin’s experience in the industry – which has evolved tremendously since he began his career – he has documented his personal ‘3 C’s’ on successful radio. Create, Captivate and Content.

  1. Create a fantastic show that gets people excited. The right mix of on-air cast members, producers and support staff are needed to make something that’s not just good, but great!
  2. Captivate your audience. Be real, but be interesting. Talent should learn to become GREAT storytellers. On radio, it’s only your words, so paint a picture for your audience. You want to not only be their friend, but be their friend that they ALWAYS want to be around. Whether it’s telling a story about your weekend or making a contest sound exciting, some people do it okay, but a few just have IT.
  3. Content is king. Having the RIGHT content and delivering it at the right time and in the right way is of utmost importance. To do that, you must KNOW your audience. Meet them. Talk to them. Understand what they care about and what they talk about. When launching or considering adding a show to YEA, George Laughlin always makes sure they have the 3 C’s covered.
